Choosing care

Choosing a home-care attendant in Meerut: questions worth asking

A practical checklist for matching daily support to your parent’s routine, preferences and home.

Start with an ordinary day

Before asking for a caregiver, write down the help your loved one needs from waking up to bedtime. Include washing, dressing, meals, companionship and any assistance agreed by the treating clinician. Notice when the family is available and where support is missing. Ask your parent what would make them comfortable; their preferences belong in the conversation.

Agree the duties before the shift

A patient attendant and a qualified nurse have different roles. Ask for a written list of duties, shift hours, breaks, charges and replacement arrangements. If prescribed clinical care is required, discuss the relevant qualification and experience rather than assuming an attendant can perform it.

Ask about fit and local availability

Share your exact Meerut locality, male or female preference, language needs and proposed start date. Discuss travel, night coverage and what happens if the assigned worker is unavailable. Ask how identification and references can be checked. Availability should be confirmed before you plan around a booking.

Create a clear family handover

Choose one family contact and agree how routine updates will be shared. Keep emergency contacts and the clinician’s existing instructions accessible in the home. Review the arrangement after the first few shifts with your parent and caregiver.
